VietNamNet Bridge – On the afternoon of January 19, at the Centre of French Culture in Hanoi, L’Espace, Vietnamese-French painter Tran Trong Vu opened an exhibition, “Wish You Longevity”, with a large painting titled “Mice’s Wedding” and 41 smaller transparent nylon pictures.
The painter said he had spent 3 months preparing for this exhibition, which will last until February 12. As for the nylon painting techniques, Vu said they were very difficult to master and took him years to research. He has worked on them ever since his freshman year at the Hanoi University of Industrial Arts.

Tran Trong Vu focuses on the changing expressions of a face, strange colorful earrings and sandals. The same male face which ages, or dons a new hair style, or puts on a pair of glasses looks different in each panting.
Details like a smile or the rubbing of the hands look brilliantly vivid and expressive. The man’s expressions and movements all exude an air of cowering before some god of longevity.
Tran Trong Vu has won many international prizes. He has also held 19 exhibitions in the US, France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, India and Hong Kong. This is his 8th solo exhibition.
